AMES launches new nacelle and aerostructure repair, overhaul services capabilities

Jebel Ali, Dubai, November 17, 2016 - Aerostructures Middle East Services (AMES), based in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone, today introduced additional services and capabilities for jet engine nacelles in the Middle East area and Indian peninsula, marking a strategic growth in the company’s support activity and positioning it for new work with airframe components.

Building on a new FAA certificate, along with a new autoclave for composites and its skilled on-site repair engineering team, AMES is now able to accommodate a growing volume of nacelle maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) work – while also creating such capabilities for composite repairs on aerostructure parts such as radomes, winglets and flight control surfaces.

AMES is a joint-venture of Safran Nacelles and Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance, performing dedicated repair services in a geographic zone that covers the Middle East, Gulf Arab states and Indian peninsula.

It provides a unique commercial and industrial offer backed by its parent companies: with Safran bringing the capabilities of a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for small, medium and large engine nacelles, while AFI KLM E&M contributes as a top provider of MRO services.

The AMES core business portfolio includes services for Safran produced nacelles and thrust reversers on Rolls-Royce Trent 700 and Trent 500 engines that equip Airbus A330s and A340s, as well as the A320 family’s CFM International CFM56 powerplant. The capabilities also apply to Safran Nacelles’ latest products, such as the nacelle system for Airbus’ A320neo (New Engine Option) version that has now entered service, and the future introduction of the company’s nacelle system on the A330neo.

AMES also is uniquely positioned to accommodate the very large nacelles and thrust reversers for General Electric’s GE90 engines on Boeing 777s, along with the Engine Alliance GP7200s and Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines that power Airbus A380s.

In addition to AMES’ in-shop repair and overhaul resources at Dubai, the joint venture has successfully developed on-wing support activities that involve the deployment of its teams into the field.

The workload of AMES’ MRO activity has grown considerably since the company’s creation in 2010. Based on its latest services expansion, the resulting additional work volume will contribute to the creation of new employment opportunities in the Jebel Ali Free Zone area during the coming years.
